Environmental information for car dealers

Feb 28, 2023
In Germany, car dealers are required to provide certain environmental information when selling vehicles. These include:

CO2 emissions: Car dealers must state the vehicle’s CO2 emissions in grams per kilometer (g/km).

Energy efficiency class: The vehicle must be labeled with an energy efficiency class. The energy efficiency class indicates how efficient the vehicle is in using fuel or electricity. The classes range from A (very efficient) to G (less efficient).

Consumption values: car dealers must also indicate the combined fuel consumption of the vehicle in liters per 100 kilometers (l/100 km).

Pollutant class: The vehicle must be marked with the pollutant class. The pollutant class indicates how much pollutants the vehicle emits. The classes range from Euro 1 (higher pollutant emissions) to Euro 6d-TEMP-EVAP-ISC (very low pollutant emissions).

This information is part of the mandatory disclosures under the Passenger Car Label Ordinance (Pkw-EnVKV) and must be included in all vehicle advertisements and offers, including on the car dealer’s website and in advertising.
